I would like to urge you to oppose
H. RES. 326. While a two-state solution would be ideal, it is dependent on a
Palestinian side that is open to a real peace with Israel. As we have seen over
decades, they have rejected peace plans and offers numerous times, and they act
as if they can just wait for the world to pressure Israel to offer more -
concessions that would compromise Israel's security.
Everyone agrees that Israel should not go back to the indefensible 1967 lines. Pressuring Israel to stop "settlement activity" in areas that would remain under Israeli rule is counterproductive. In the case of Jerusalem, in areas of the Old City that have been historically Jewish, and other holy areas to Jews, it is actually antisemitic to insist Jews cannot live there.
Israel wants peace - real peace. It has shown that it will compromise for peace. Pressuring Israel is not the way forward. Palestinians must realize that the longer they wait, the less they can expect to get. Only then will they start taking peace seriously. The US should support Israel and we should encourage Europe to do the same - because that is the only way towards peace.
Thanks for your consideration.
